How often should I get my oil changed?

Many lube shops still suggest every 3 months or 3,000 miles, but the best guide is your owner's manual. Check it for the manufacturer-recommended intervals for your specific model.

Should I worry about servicing my leased vehicle?

Yes. Most leases require regular scheduled preventative maintenance. If a third-party shop does the work, keep your records — turning in a vehicle with a maintenance indicator on, without proof of service, can lead to end-of-lease charges.

How often should I change my timing belt?

In most cases there are no obvious warning signs — the belt simply breaks. That's why mechanics recommend replacing it every 60,000 to 100,000 miles. Always check your owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommendation.

Do I need to charge my battery after a jump start?

A jump-started vehicle should run for about 20 minutes if possible, letting the alternator fully charge the battery. If the battery keeps losing charge, contact a mechanic to diagnose the problem.

How do I know when I need new tires?

Tread should never fall below 1/16 of an inch (twice that if you drive on slick surfaces). Try the penny test: insert a Lincoln-head penny head-down into the tread — if you can see all of Abe's head, it's time to replace your tires to keep your family safe.
